Karuna Krishan Thareja Advocate Enlisted in Forbes India- Legal Powerlist 2023

They say third time's the charm. They couldn't have said it better. šŸ’«

Thrilled to be enlisted in the prestigious Forbes India Legal Powerlist 2023 Top Individual Lawyer - for the third time!āļøāļøāļø

As a first-generation lawyer (and the first in my family) this recognition is particularly meaningful and calls for some reflection. šŸ™‚

First off, my gratitude goes to the exceptional legal professionals I've engaged with since starting my legal practice who have been wonderful allies.

My deepest gratitude goes to some truly tough but encouraging clients who have pushed me to excel. Such as representing one of this countryā€™s top LNG energy sector leader in #servicematters and #LettersPatent Appeal, and Indiaā€™s top polling agency in all #contractual matters and in various legal forums. With every matter, I have been able to deepen my knowledge on service laws, contractual matters, #Telecom related disputes, and constitutional questions of law.

From the past year, one of the most significant developments has been representing the Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Company Limited (UPPTCL) (and for several years) before the Honā€™ble Delhi High Court and Honā€™ble Supreme Court of India and in #arbitration matters. This has allowed me to develop a strong foundation in #ElectricityLaws (right of way, #BOCW Act, #Cess Act), culminating in our recent victory at the #SupremeCourtofIndia.

Beyond routine #civil and #criminal matters, this year brought a unique victory. In a time-sensitive and controversial case (Uttarakhand), the Nainital High Court convened a special session on a Sunday (Oct 29, 2023) to hear the urgent and interim #bail application. Our successful representation secured interim bail for the client, allowing him to attend his daughter's wedding in Italy.

Beyond courtroom wins, my passion thrives on pro bono work especially in the area of child and women's rights and to that end, I provide #probono legal advise to #ChildRights NGO PRATYek on #POCSO matters and am Honorary Advisor to the Initiative for Children's Rights (ICCR). I also regularly advise on POSH matters.

I am also committed to fostering the next generation of legal minds and have enjoyed judging national moot court competitions and take time out to #mentor law students. I am also in the process of authoring a book in this regard.

Ultimately, for me, success goes beyond winning cases and giving formidable legal representation. It's also about continuous learning and value creation. I consider myself an ever evolving student of law. I am always, always willing to learn and put in the hardwork. šŸ’Ŗ And I am willing to walk an extra mile with my clients!

Finally, to quote a senior lawyer who said to me once - "KT, there's always something we can do!"

Yes, we can! Here's to smashing more glasscelings! šŸ„‚ Cheers!
